The Story of the Little Red Wagon Pin

The Story of Our Little Red Wagon Pin

For over a decade, this lapel pin has been a signature gift from ICL to colleagues, policymakers, funders, teachers, parents and hosts of friends. Generally, we distribute it on a card with the following explanation...

The pin has two levels of significance.

  • The little red wagon is a symbol reminding all adults of our childhood and the civic responsibility that we share to find the best way in which we can each contribute to the well-being and education of today's children. It's the job of educators, the pin reminds us, to get all those grownups to pile into the wagon and then for us to reach back, grab the handle and pull everyone along in aligned support of children's learning and well-being: this is what we talk about when we refer to "educators as leaders". This is what makes collaboration skills so vitally important for everyone dedicated to children's learning.
  • The tboc ©2002 on the wagon stands for The Benefit Of Children: the criterion we each should use to guide us in daily decision-making - for the big decisions as well as the small ones.

If you'd like a pin, drop us a note. They make great giveaways and discussion-starters for nearly everyone who was once a child!
